Melodie en ritme: een muzikale ontwikkeling van mijn kind

The top 2000 of NPO Radio 2. Who doesn't know the "list of lists"? 2023 marked the twenty-fifth year with the list as the finale. The iconic gong at the end of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody has become commonplace by now. As you can see: easy come, easy go, little high, little low. Music is an important part of our lives. But what is the effect of music on your child? And what does your child learn when playing instruments? You'll discover that in this blog, about: indeed, music.

Why does my child love music?

The ear wants its share too. Hearing is one of our five senses. Some people are more sensitive to sound than others, but every human deals with sound. So does your little one. Does your child dance or sway to K3, Children for Children, or to the songs of Juf Roos and Gijs? That's quite logical, actually. We humans are sensitive to sound. Some of us more than others. But generally, most children love music. Why is that? Music is a way to convey feeling and emotion through sound. Instruments and vocals harmonize to evoke emotions in our brains. So, you literally become happy from cheerful music.

The benefits of music for your child's brain

Making music or listening to music stimulates the brain. The human brain can be divided into two areas. The left hemisphere, mainly analytical thinking, and the right hemisphere mainly feeling and creativity. Music, among other things, connects these two hemispheres. So, your child learns to use both hemispheres in cooperation with each other. Thus, music stimulates the connection between different areas in the brain. For example, the use of language in music activates the left hemisphere. Your child will start recognizing words and thus develop language proficiency. As soon as your child starts making music themselves, the right hemisphere kicks in. This stimulates creativity and ingenuity. Thus, auditory perception is converted into development.
