Engage in educational outings beyond the confines of the classroom

Leer buiten de deur met educatieve uitstapjes

Educational outings are not only fun, but also incredibly valuable for the development of your child. Your family can learn and discover in a fun and educational manner during such activities. In 2024, we spend a significant amount of our time glued to screens. Therefore, it is all the more important to occasionally venture out. This way, your children get to interact with the world around them. Learning can also take place outside the confines of classrooms, and in this blog, we provide you with some examples to embark on a journey of discovery with your child.

Our 3 tips for an enjoyable educational day?

It naturally depends on the activity, but each educational outing contributes to the development of your child. This way, your children learn about the history and present of the world around them and can acquire skills during an activity. The possibilities are vast. One thing they all have in common is fostering curiosity. Here are our 3 tips for a fun and educational day out:

Visit a museum nearby

Museums come in all shapes and sizes, each with its own subject matter. But they all help you learn something. Consider places like the Anne Frank House or the National Monument Camp Vught, where your children can learn about our history and the significance of freedom. In Utrecht, you'll find the Railway Museum. If your child has an interest in trains, this is the ideal place to learn more about them. How about the Open Air Museum or Madurodam? Both parks focus on Dutch history, and you can explore everything outdoors. No need to worry about rainy days ruining your plans.

Embrace nature and explore the outdoors

Yes, even the Netherlands has natural areas. It's almost hard to believe, but the tranquility there is almost serene. In our densely populated country, where something is always happening, that silence might be just what you need. The Hoge Veluwe National Park in Gelderland is our most famous natural area. Explore the park on foot or by bike, combining exertion and tranquility. The Biesbosch is another well-known natural area, perfect for those who want to feel the wind in their hair. This is the place to be.

Connect with animals

Plenty of options here. The Netherlands boasts numerous zoos: Apenheul, Burgers’ Zoo, Ouwehands Dierenpark, Safaripark Beekse Bergen, Artis, and of course, Diergaarde Blijdorp. Each has its own character, but the common denominator is animals. Lots of them. Your child surely has a favorite animal, and you're likely to encounter it. Closer to home, you can opt for a petting zoo. Rabbits, goats, sheep, or hamsters—there's a good chance your child will get to cuddle with one of these little creatures.

Naturally, there are many more possibilities. Consider workshops like drawing, making music, baking, and so on. You can also opt for a city walk. In short, there are plenty of choices.

What educational journey will you plan with your child this year?
